New Layout, W-T-F; Stumple Upon
Posted on Aug 4, 2008 | Filed Under Ramblings, Site Updates

As if updating 20-or-so blogs individually, then updating three different folders of files wasn't bad enough- I did it all at 3 in the morning. Tried to do it while no one was on the website, but I saw that a few people saw it while it was a complete disaster.
The top navigation (just to the right of the header) is in a very odd place, I know. It was meant to be a horizontal menu, but I just can't seem to work with those anymore. I tried to get it the way it was supposed to look, but it just wouldn't work. The semi-transparent background for the links is supposed to go across the entire header, just so you guys know.
About the different colored links.. I tried and wanted to keep all of the links the same color in the beginning, but it made the layout so plain. I wanted this layout to look colorful, so I had to break my own rule of keeping all links the same color. If you're interested in as to why I like to keep links the same color, you can go read Lucian's little article of "Inconsistent color coding" from "Biggest Web Design mistakes of 2005".
So what do you guys think of the new layout? Like it, hate it, don't care about it? Give me some feedback.

Now is the time where I rant about the massive amount of idiots that use Stumble Upon. Don't get me wrong, it's a great website, both Moorina and I use (we use the same account, but.. same thing) it, and we've made a few friends through it. However, some of the people that rate websites are just.. Interesting.
First, there's the people that say "omg awesome!" and they gave it a thumbs down. What..?! Did you like the website or not? Is it that hard to understand that thumbs up is a good thing, and thumbs down is a bad thing? Most humans (that I know) have mastered this body language at the age of 3.
Next, the people that give thumbs down, and leave a review saying "aww hell naw". Do I even need to explain to you why I hate this?
Finally, the people that have no idea what they're talking about. I was reading reviews for Musicovery, and I read one that says something along the lines of "Great idea, but the music quality SUCKS." Now, I've worked with Macromedia Flash before, and I know that it is no easy task to get one song to play that is of high quality on a simple flash. I'm assuming there are over 100 songs on that entire website, and you're complaining that the music quality is low? To me, the point of the Musicovery website is to discover news songs and artists, not to actually listen to songs like you do with Windows Media Player or Lime Wire.

Just my two cents.

Bring on the funnies

So, I just thought I'd spread a little joy. I'm linking to a bunch of videos, images or articles that I find funny. And some that just plain rock. Just so you're aware; I link to Photoshop Disasters plenty. So here it goes:

The funnies

Font Conference - Everyone needs to watch this at least once. :) Mailbox, open mailbox!
WIndows Mojave: Vista in Disguise - AHA. Even If I, myself, hate Vista (I've tried.. Doesn't agree with me tablet). This is a smack in the face to those people.
Georga Takei on Homophobia - "And let it be known, that one day, when you least expect it, I will have sex with you!"
Ameriquest Mortgage Commercials
Today's Big Fail
Photoshop Disasters - I think we can all agree that this website is funny and pwnsome. I'll pick out some really bad disasters:

Alright, enough of the funnies.

The pwnsome

Zelda Ocarinas - Been selling for a while, but these look awesome.
The Evolution of Dance - It's pretty old, but still amazingly pwnsome.
Swimchick.net parody site - Not trying to be rude, but if something like this happened to my site, I'd still laugh at it and say how awesome it is.
What code DOESN'T Do in Real Life (That it does in movies) - 'Tis true. :(
Anatomy of My Desktop - Helped me pimp out my desktop. Thank you, Greven.
Western Spaghetti - Eeee! Stop-motion!

Oh, and for the record: the winner of the last post was The Outline. I'll be working on it over the weekend, and hopefully get it up early August. Can you believe Hardcore Icons is almost a year old? I can't.
There's also a chance of Hardcore Icons switching to Wordpress. Oh boy, am I looking forward to coding a theme for it. :( Oh joy.. Hopefully I can get someone to help me out. (eh? EH?)

Edit: I've been working hard on a completely new layout for Hardcore Icons. I have no idea why, since I knew ahead of time that I'm supposed to put an old layout up. *facepalm*. Personally, I'm in love with the layout, but I'd like to know what you guys think. Should I put The Outline up, or the new layout?
Whichever one loses here, will be put up for download.
Oh, and the music video for Coldplay's single Viva La Vida blows. It was a huge disappointment after seeing the amazing iTunes commercial for the song. Don't waste your time. :)

You can call it peace

I feel so terrible. D: I am such a shit.
I just so happen to do this after I add a new tutorial. God.

I think I'm going to use one of our previous themes for a new layout. Because, let's face it, this one seems squished. It's either Smile, Ride the Wave, The Outline or Rocking Civilization. We might even be able to get Moorina's layout; "untitled". Mocha Rainbow, sadly, was much to complicated, with no real room for a sidebar. I might be able to work something out, but it's not likely to happen.

Still haven't been doing anything productive for the site. This site is slowly coming to a close. Updating is more of a chore then it has ever been. It's not that we don't have the time, It's just a hobby that both Moorina and I are losing interest in. Whatever happens, this site, along with Drashee and Friggley (if it opens again), will always stay open until our host says otherwise.

Let's not try to be emotional about the whole situation. Go ahead and vote for which theme you would like to see used on Hardcore Icons again.

Correction: I've added Rocking Civilization to the list, and I guess if you guys vote for it enough; I will edit Mocha Rainbow so it will have a sidebar. Huzzah! :D So now all of our layouts, with the exception with Moorina's layout, are able to be voted for. And yes, you can vote for more than one. :P

Edit: I've never done something like this, but I've actually sketched down an entire layout on a napkin. 8D I'm so excited to try and make it, especially since I know where to get the exact resources that I need. Eeeee! I should start working on it. :D Wish me luck, guys.

A tutorial? WHAT?!

Dad: Sweety, are you going to bed anytime soon?
Me: SHH! I'm busy writing a tutorial!

"writing a tutorial"

Those are three words you don't hear from me very often. :P It's not a super fantastic tutorial, but it's something. Something to keep Friggley alive. And it's filled to the rim with images. It's the first time I've done that.
Since I haven't really been productive with anything Hardcore Icons, wise, I thought 'why not?'.

Drop Shadow Tutorial

Tell me if and what problems you have with the tutorial on Friggley Windows (the tutorial site), please. I'll gladly take some "omg awesome *high five*" comments both here, and the tutorials site, though. XD I need a good high five once in a while.

Also, is anyone else here completely obsessed with the song Electric Feel by MGMT? I can't rip away from it. D: I've been listening to it over and over again for the last 4 hours. Someone help me.

Edit: Just noticed the comments on the Friggley Windows don't worrrrk. I'll see what I can dooo. Until then, comment with your problems here.

Edit 2: There's at least 2 edits in every post, isn't there..? Anyway, we're changing Weekly Quotes to Quotes..The weekly quotes gave us another reason to hate Mondays. LOL. I mean, we had to update every week. So, we'll update them every few weeks or so from now on.

Ahahahahahaha

Brother: You did what?!
Dad: Signed ya up for ballet..
Brother: Why?!
Dad: You're so clumsy.. I thought it would help.
Brother: You just enjoy making me look like a douche bag, don't you? D:
Dad: :D...

So, how was your 4th of July[1]?

I'll get all those icons and bases I told you about earlier uploaded today. I promise. I still have to convert them all into PNGs. I hate how slow my computer is.
Also, since I dislike Outspoken Kate's new layout, but (as much as I hate to admit it) I enjoy reading Kate's blogs; I decided to mess around with the layout in Stylish. All I did was changed the fonts, took away some images and such. I think it actually turned out pretty well, I really like it this way. Here, you can see a screen shot of what I did. :D Har, I think I'll start messing around with sites that have layouts I don't like from now on. Google, here I come!

[1] - question is aimed mostly towards people living in the US.

Edit: Alright, alright- I uploaded all of the icons and bases just before 12 o'clock, but it's still July 5th. I made it on time. :D *highfive*

Edit 2: Added another High Quality mp3 to the list. It's that rap song from The World Ends With You. Subarashiki Kono Sekai - Twister (English)
